Player Pledge

The following represents the values and behaviors we expect of all players, participants, and sponsors of Pittsburgh LGBTQ+ Hockey.

  • We celebrate each others’ bravery in bringing their true selves on and off the ice.  We believe we all are better together.  We strive to create as welcoming a space for LGBTQ+ and Allies as we can.

  • We try to be a fun team to play for and to play against.  We respect each other and each others' boundaries both on and off the ice.

  • We want to bring our best every game. This includes, but is not limited to, showing up on time when we say we are going to show up and not being under the influence such that it impacts our ability to play our best.

  • We realize that we are all in this to have fun and to learn, and that our teams and leadership do what they can to balance opportunity to play with fielding teams at appropriate competitive levels.

  • We run a positive and friendly locker room.  Violent, derogatory, overly aggressive, or insensitive language has no place on our teams, in our chat channels or at our events.  (Insensitive language could include but is not limited to racist, transphobic or homophobic comments, sexual harassment, misgendering, comments about sexual or physical assault, and more.)

  • We all make mistakes and we show grace to each other.  We recognize that not everybody is looking for feedback in the same ways.  We also recognize that harm can be done even if no harm was intended.

  • We can share concerns or report perceived violations of this Pledge to the Captains, Alternate Captains or the Board of Pittsburgh LGBTQ+ Hockey  As all of our experiences are different, we will try to provide opportunities to learn from our mistakes and warnings when appropriate.  However, repeated or egregious offenses could result in suspension from games and activities or dismissal from our league with no reimbursement, per decision of the Board.  Everyone is welcome but we realize that we may not be a fit for everyone.
